Animoto is a Web 2.0 tool that allows the user the flexibility to create shows that are accessible from anywhere the web can be found. The limitations that come with a standard account are a little frustrating and I have used the educational version for creating slide shows for our football team, etc. I like this tool for a showcase tool that is free and advanced for educators. Applications like iMovie and Moviemaker are profile or machine specific. I could see using this tool for a class that has limited access to applications like the aforementioned. For example, our Netbooks are not equipped with iMovie or Moviemaker, therefore we could have an English class create a book trailer trying to encourage others to read the book they read. We have used iMovie for this project before, but Animoto could be used for something similar expanding student availability to their project. The iMovie book trailers were limited to specific machines, Animoto projects would not be.
